2016 July NEWSLETTER

Area Coordinators Message
Good to see another reduction in crime statistics last month but don’t forget we all need to play our part in not allowing a crime to occur. Do you leave your valuables on show in your car when parked in shopping centre car parks? A GPS, mobile phone, laptop or tablet computer is currency for those who need quick money. How about leaving your vehicle unlocked in the driveway or on the street outside your home? Do you ever leave the keys in the ignition when you go to pay at the service station or did you leave property in the unlocked car for those couple of minutes? At home do you leave your front, back &/or side door open when you are at home? Just being in the garage, garden or hanging the washing out is still long enough for a sneak thief to pop in & relieve you of cash, car keys etc. Tradies do you leave your tools on the back of your ute or in an unlocked van? Instead of letting the criminal have the upper hand do something positive & take precautions to not allow a crime to occur. It will save a lot of time, money & angst in the long run - more information from your local police station or the District Crime Prevention Office at Logan Police Station - if you are a community group do you need an officer to come out & discuss ways to minimise the likelihood of an offence? One of the ways to prevent a crime involving your vehicle is to have Safe PL8 screws fitted to your registration plates.
This will prevent the theft of plates to be used in crimes & save you money in having to get new plates made up. Details of upcoming events are under the police statistics or you can arrange to have them fitted at the police station - ring for details.
Next event will be our FREE AFTERNOON TEA to celebrate SENIORS WEEK on August 16th. As well as speakers from SENIORS LINE & HOME ASSIST, our friends from the Logan House Fire Support Network will be in attendance to give information & sell products to bring you up to date with the change in legislation for smoke alarms.
There will be a lucky door prize and although it is being held on the same day as the event at the  Logan Entertainment Centre, this afternoon tea is for those of you who are unable to travel. Please ring or email to book as numbers are limited to 50. Phone 0410 504 640 or email  crestmeadnhw@hotmail.com
On Sunday August 28th the third LOGAN ROAD SAFETY EXPO will be held in the car park area outside the Logan City Council Offices 10am-2pm.
There will be many stalls providing information relating to safe driving, plus entertainment including a free jumping castle & if not required to be operational we have the POLAIR helicopter promised to drop in. There will be a mock crash rescue by the Qld Fire & Rescue Service. Food will be available with a BBQ & drinks for sale by PCYC, & our friends from the Coffee Club Village Square will have their coffee cart cranked up! This event will have interactive items such as electric bikes, driver simulator, speed camera van, view of new police bikes, drug testing van & forensic crash unit.
Qld Rail will also be there with information on safe rail travel, & the All Terrain Vehicle from Browns Plains police will be on show. Bicycle Qld will be able to answer your questions on bike safety & we are pleased that our sponsors from the last road safety expo Toll Group will be bringing along one of their brand new prime movers. A free event for all ages with plenty of surprises!
Great news for local charity Logan House Fire Support Network with the donation of a decommissioned ambulance made recently by Cameron Dick, Minister for Health & Ambulance Services as well as local MP for Woodridge. The vehicle will be much more suited for the unfortunate events which Louie & Christine have to attend. It will allow for privacy and some shelter & comfort for those who have suffered the loss of property (or worse) in a house fire. Big thanks to Shane Drew & his workers from Drew’s Sign It Pty Ltd & from Quell & Logan Funerals who are so supportive of the LHFSN work.
Look after each other & take care Geoff

SAFE PL8 SCREWS
Please note that Volunteers in Policing (VIP’s) will be providing the fitting of safe PL8 screws to your vehicle at the following locations:
MARSDEN ON FIFTH SHOPPING CENTRE
Thursday 28th July and 25th August 9am –11am
MARSDEN PARK SHOPPING CENTRE
Tuesday 23rd August 9am to 11am
The fitting of these one way screws to your registration plates prevents thieves from taking the plates to use in petrol drive offs or worse crimes. A gold coin donation would be appreciated so that the VIP’s can continue this worthwhile and pro-active service.
