NEWSLETTER June 2012

Message from The Area Coordinator
A big thank you to Crestmead Police for hosting our last meeting in May when we were joined by Michael Pucci the new MLA representative for Logan. We were very pleased that Mr Pucci managed to attend our meeting before heading back to Parliament for another meeting, and we look forward to implementation of the promises made by the new government in relation to laws and sentencing. As you can see with the statistics for the past month, the police are managing to track down the criminals but we need tougher sentencing to stop the repeat offenders. Of course we must do all we can to minimize the possibility of becoming a victim of crime which can be taking just simple measures.· Lock your doors - even when inside your home.
A sneak thief can be in and out of your home without you hearing so don’t give them the opportunity.
Lock garages and sheds tools and ladders can be used to break in.
· Lock your vehicles even when parked in your driveway. Put valuables out of sight and don’t leave GPS systems attached to the windscreen.
· Have safe plate screws fitted to your vehicle this will prevent the registration plates being
stolen and used for other vehicle crimes.
· Review your home and vehicles security. Often insurance premiums are reduced if you have window locks, burglar alarms etc fitted. Contact your local police station to arrange a safety audit.
· Mark valuables with microdots or engraving
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting,
Take care Geoff

Identity theft information
At a recent Logan West Library information session regarding identity theft, advice was given that many break and enter crimes do not necessarily take plasma TV’s, laptops etc. The current wave of crimes involve much more easily transportable items electricity accounts, phone bills etc which are often stuck to the fridge or easily to hand these are major items which can be used to steal YOUR IDENTITY!!
We are planning to provide another fraud and identity theft information session and we will advise details of date & venue in a later newsletter.
Please ensure that your documents are stored in a safe place you would probably not notice forms and paper items until a later date when it was time to pay large items of value are not always the target of opportunist thieves.
