What a strange few weeks we had weatherwise. I hope that you escaped unscathed and how wonderful to see the community support for those people affected in Logan Reserve. No doubt Logan Council will be arranging collections of donated goods so if you are having a spring (summer) clean perhaps you could look out some items that will be of help to those less fortunate than yourselves.
How timely the article last month about volun-teering and I hope that you were able to contact some of the groups mentioned.
Also don't forget to see if those less able people in your street/vicinity are coping ok. With the power out in Crestmead (and many other suburbs) for 2 days there will be some who lost their fridge/freezer contents. How about doing an extra bit of shopping to help them out? With the wet and windy weather there are many trees that will be unsafe and the sodden ground will make them quite precarious so be careful and take appropriate measures. Help out someone who is aged/infirm to clear up their yard etc. We don't have to wait until Neighbour Day in March to show up!! Don’t forget to try and help our local businesses who also suffered with the power outage - Julie Street shops were affected too so perhaps you could give them your support.
Those that can help out with donations please think about some of your own items or perhaps you could buy new clothes for those flood af-fected. You can't really do hand me downs (or ups) with these, (and it's not just undies). Go to Undies for Bundy

Lots of things on the agenda for this year & we will be holding another Community Benefit booksale at the Logan West library on Grand Plaza Drive on Saturday March 23rd between 9am & 2pm. All books, magazines & CD’s will be $2 or less & we are also having a sausage sizzle & raffle & can affix safe plate screws to your vehicle registration plates so come along and grab a bargain (and a snag).
We will be selling Entertainment Guides again this year and still for the very low price of $65. Funds raised to go to NHW for community events, so please think of purchasing from our group. A couple of meals (or night in a hotel) and you have more than made up for the initial outlay.
This months meeting WILL go ahead - we had to cancel the January meeting due to the weather so hope that you can come along and be part of the community - we would like to hear your views and suggestions for the group. Take care Geoff
The Queensland Government has announced a state-wide amnesty from prosecution for the surrender and registration of weapons and unregistered firearms during the amnesty pe-riod.
You can surrender unregistered firearms to your local firearms dealer or police station without prosecution for its possession. Personal details or reasons for the possession may not be required.
If you hold a Weapons Act licence for the relevant category you can apply to register a firearm at your shooting club, firearms dealer, armourer or local police station without prosecution for its possession.

PCYC is holding the next Grey Light Disco on Friday February 22nd with free entry and live music!!
Crestmead Annual Outdoor Spectacular - CAOS will be held this year on April 13th with a later start time 2pm to 10pm. More news next edition but contact the PCYC for more info in the meantime.
Foundations and Drumbeat - two new programs will be running in local schools by the PCYC youth team. Foundations is a young women’s life skills program which will pilot at St Francis. Drumbeat is an interactive communications program but the venue is yet to be announced.
Grow - an organisation for helping those suffering or recovering from Depression, Anxiety or similarly associated mental health problems now has a group meeting every Tuesday morning 11am - 1pm held at Crestmead Community Centre. The group is open to men and women and has been in existence well over 20 years and is similar to AA programmes. Please contact the Community Centre for further information or Sue on 0413 920 633.
Donna’s Photography is holding a photo shoot on Sunday March 24th. Cost of $150 for unlimited hours of photography for FAMILY and COUPLE portraits, Promotional and Advertising photography. Half of fee will raise funds for Epilepsy Queensland.

PCYC are holding their first ever DEAF LIGHT DISCO on 22nd March
To be held at Crestmead Community Centre 6pm to 8.30pm for school ages Prep to Year 12. $4 for PCYC members and $5 for non members. Food and drinks available for sale and parents and guardians are welcome to stay and catch up in the Community Cafe at the centre
LOGAN POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2012-2013
Remember that there is still time to vote for these awards. Logan Rotary have organised the awards and they are sponsored by Grand Plaza and Colonial First State. Voting boxes can be found at Commonwealth Bank branches, Motorama & the Albert & Logan News amongst others, and close on 28th Feb.
Nominations can be lodged on line at www.loganrotary.org.au or you can enter on one of the forms in the local Quest paper or at one of the local businesses who have a voting box and forms. The nominations are for:
- Police Officer of the year
- Police Staff member of the year (civilian employees)
- Logan District Police Station of the year (include which section if applicable)
