NEWSLETTER May 2012

Message from The Area Coordinator
Congratulations to Crestmead PCYC for a very successful CAOS & once again the younger members of our community had a great opportunity to see what is available with the PCYC. However it is there to be used by ALL AGES so if there is a pursuit you may be interested in, give the PCYC a call. They are also looking for more volunteers (as is Crestmead NHW) so if you have time on your hands perhaps you would like to help out. Phone 3805 4100.
The first Grey Light Disco was held at the Community Centre & I am sure that all those who were there agreed it was a great idea why should the youngsters have all the fun? Music from 50’s, 60’s & 70’s, a light supper & drinks available all for a very reasonable $10 entry.
The next one will be held in July so get your dancing shoes ready & have a great evening 6pm - 8pm.
We had a very interesting talk from the community education officer at Logan City Council Animal & Pest Management. The new animal laws were outlined & many of you may not be aware of the recent changes.
Contact LCC 3412 3412 for more information.
Some of our members are door knocking to gain signatures for a petition to request the state government to address the inconsistency of sentencing & to increase the number of Police on the beat. If you would like a copy of the petition to circulate to friends and relatives, please contact me on the email address overleaf.
Finally congratulations to the residents of Berrinba East who have recently set up their new NHW group. We wish them every success.
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting at the
police station. Take care Geoff

ANIMAL MANAGEMENT
All cats and dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered with Logan City Council. Owners of unregistered cats & dogs may be fined. Make sure your cats & dogs are wearing current registration tags. If you have lost your cat or dog contact the Animal Management Centre at 213 Queens Rd Kingston open Mon-Fri 8.30am –4.30pm & Saturday 9am-2pm. Ph 3412 5318.
Older residents can choose an older pet free from council under the ‘’SENIORS FOR SENIORS ‘’ program.
Changes to legislation now requires cats to be kept in an enclosure on your property to prevent them from roaming. The new laws offer more flexibility for the types of animals you can keep on your property & an approval system exists if you wish to keep MORE than the allowable number. All cats should be microchipped & discounted registration fees apply to desexed cats. A discounted desexing & microchipping clinic is available to pension & concession card holders at the Combined
Vets of Logan City Community Desexing & Microchip clinic open Monday to Friday 9am-4pm & Saturdays 9am-noon at the animal management centre. Cats can reach maturity at 5 months of age & with 2/3 seasons per year & up to 5 kittens each litter, one cat can have up to 150 kittens in its lifetime.
Barking dog nuisances are one of the most common complaints received by council if you lodge a complaint you will be requested to maintain a log of times & for how long the barking/howling or whining takes place.
Make sure your dog has access to a clean bowl of fresh water every day, has adequate shelter, has a daily exercise routine & is not sick or injured. Dogs are social animals and can bark due to stress of being lelft alone or through plain boredom. ENSURE THAT YOU PICK UP & DISPOSE OF YOUR DOG’S DROPPINGS, take a doggy bag with you. Fines apply if you don’t do the right thing.
